Golomb, Eliyahu
(1893-1945)
   Palestinian Zionist. He was born in Belorussia and settled in Palestine in 1909. At the outbreak of World War I he helped to form an independent Jewish defence force. From 1921 he was a member of the Haganah Committee of the Histadrut and the following year he was sent abroad to purchase arms. Beginning in 1931, he attempted to establish a broad popular basis for the Haganah. He was one of the founders of the Palmah.
